Retail sales in Turkey increased 11.4% year-on-year in April 2026, a sharp slowdown from the upwardly revised 21.7% rise recorded in March. Growth in non-food sales, excluding automotive fuel, lost momentum (14.5% vs 29.5% in March), with notable decelerations in several categories: computers, peripheral equipment and software, books, telecommunications equipment, and similar items (18.6% vs 49.9%); audio and video equipment, hardware, paints and glass, household electrical appliances, furniture, and related goods (6.7% vs 10.0%); textiles, clothing and footwear (10.7% vs 14.2%); and mail-order and internet sales (17.9% vs 21.1%). Sales of automotive fuel also grew at a much slower rate (2.7% vs 10.7%). In contrast, food sales edged slightly higher (7.6% vs 7.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 1.7%, reversing an upwardly revised 2.8% increase in the previous month.
