US President Donald Trump eventually clarified the goal of his tariff policy. The US leader declared that his actions are aimed at boosting domestic production of technological goods and military equipment, “things like tanks, not clothing items like sneakers and T-shirts.” Now it all makes sense! The focus is on the nation’s strength and greatness, not everyday consumer goods.
Following these remarks made before boarding Air Force One in Jersey, the US president reaffirmed that his administration stands by its current plans. Indeed, why bother manufacturing consumer products? Exactly — that’s not the priority! "Why make sneakers and T-shirts? We want to produce military equipment. It's important to build big things. We’ll also be focusing on artificial intelligence," the president stated.
He elaborated on what exactly he was ready to prioritize. "I’m not looking to make T-shirts, to be honest. I’m not looking to make socks. We can do that very well in other locations. We are looking to do chips and computers and lots of other things, and tanks and ships," the White House chief added.
