2026.09.1407:59:05UTC+00DAX Falls as Oil and AI Concerns Weigh

Frankfurt’s DAX 40 declined more than 0.5% to around 25,420 points on Monday, weighed down by a sharp rise in oil prices, renewed worries over the rapid development of artificial intelligence, and a cautious mood ahead of a packed week of central bank meetings.

Oil prices advanced as tensions in the Strait of Hormuz escalated following new Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia and Iranian attacks on Gulf shipping. These developments compounded supply concerns already heightened by the shutdown of a key Saudi pipeline.

At the same time, sentiment was dampened by a resurgence of concerns about AI-related risks. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned of the potential for large-scale AI-enabled cyberattacks, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman urged a more restrained pace of AI development.

Investors are also positioning for a busy week of monetary policy decisions, with the Federal Reserve widely expected to raise interest rates on Wednesday.

In corporate news, Adidas slipped 0.6% after investment bank Baird downgraded the stock to “Neutral” and lowered its price target from €180 to €165.
